The Beginning
The Saint James Bible Fellowship was born out of a small group from Durkeetown Baptist Church. In December of 2016, about twelve to fifteen believers began meeting together with great excitement for the work of God’s kingdom and eager anticipation of what the Lord would do through them.
Almost immediately, the Lord provided in a remarkable way. The former Saint James Episcopal Church, which had faithfully served Fort Edward for many years, was being closed by the Albany Diocese. After meeting with Bishop Bill Love, it was decided that our group could begin meeting in the church building. In time, the Diocese graciously gave the building to Durkeetown Baptist Church so that Saint James Bible Fellowship would have a permanent home for worship and ministry.
From the beginning, our fellowship has remained under the financial and spiritual oversight of Durkeetown Baptist Church. We are deeply grateful for this partnership, and we continue to trust that God will grow His ministry here. Above all, we long for the people of Fort Edward—especially those who are not yet part of a church family—to find in this place a home where they can worship the living God revealed in Jesus Christ.
Mission
Our mission is the same as that of Durkeetown Baptist Church: the advancement of the reign of God in human life. We seek this end through the public worship of God; through evangelism, by bringing people to a personal acceptance and confession of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; through Christian education for both young and old; through Christian fellowship; and through missionary endeavor. Our church services reflect this mission by focusing on biblical teaching (reading and teaching the Scriptures), on Christian fellowship, and on joyful singing as an expression of our worship to God.
If you wish to visit us, please do—and if you are looking for a church family, we hope you may prayerfully consider making Saint James Bible Fellowship a place to invest God’s gifts and grace.
